My Favorite Simple Smoothie Recipes

I drink a smoothie every day and I am always trying to improve the flavor (make them taste the least green as possible haha). Most of my smoothies only require 3-4 ingredients. I also add a vegan protein supplement to my smoothies and some nuts and seeds from time to time but this isn't required.  Today I wanted to share some of my favorites as I get questions about them all the time.

SOME OF MY BASIC SMOOTHIE RULES.

Over time I have learned some methods that help my smoothies come out with the best texture and not super chunky. The ingredients I use also helps to hide the “green” flavor if you aren’t into that.

  • Add enough liquid but not too much. Start with a small amount of liquid and add more if you need it. Don't start with too much because your smoothie will come out like juice.

  • Use frozen fruit and veggies. These make the smoothie cold and thicker. Add your fruit and veggies to the blender first, then add your protein powder, then any seeds and nuts and finally pour over the liquid.

  • Blend the fruit and veggies with the protein and any other ingredients a little before adding your ice. I find that this helps everything blend together better.

  • You need to have a quality blender. I suggest everyone invest in a blender. Below is are my favorite ones, they are affordable and perfect for blending smoothies.

ADD-IN IDEAS.

It's always a good idea to get the most nutritional boost out of your smoothies.

Here are some items you can add to make them even better:

Green superfood powder

Maca powder

Ground Flax seeds

Chia seeds

Organic yogurt

Coconut water or milk

Peanut butter or Almond butter

Organic Oats

Collagen Peptides

All of these can be found online or at your local health food grocery store. I like shopping at Amazon, Whole Foods, Sprouts and Vitacost for theses items. I hope this post gave you a few ideas of how to make some simple smoothies that taste delicious.

Here a a couple of videos on how I make my smoothies.
