How I Cope With Bouts of Depression
The thing about depression and feeling low is it can hit you out of nowhere! Sometimes, I feel moody, anxious, irritable and annoyed for no reason at all. I've cried several times for I don't know what... my life is pretty great and I am blessed. I have a great family, a great job and a wonderful home. The Good Lord has kept me and I am thankful! But even with all of this sometimes I get sad.
I'll admit I really dislike the feeling of not being in control of my emotions. Sometimes that is exactly how I feel. Not knowing what to tell someone when they ask "what's wrong" because honestly I DON'T KNOW! Ugh so frustrating. During times of depression I find myself spending ALOT of time asking:
“For some people, a bout of depression begins with symptoms of anxiety (such as worrying a lot), sadness, or lack of energy. This may go on for days or months before the person or others think that depression could be the problem. And other people may feel depressed suddenly.” - (WebMD, 2016)
I am firm believer that if you don't like a situation you should do whatever you can to change it. Whenever I experience a bout of depression I decide that I will not to stay down and depressed. I pray and ask the Lord for help and comfort and I also began to do some things that I know help me when I am feeling anxious and depressed.
When I pray and meditate on the blessings in my life it automatically makes me begin to feel better. Sometimes taking the focus off of yourself and how you are feeling at the moment is what you need to do to get out of the slump.
I find that when I am feeling depressed exercise does wonders for pulling me out of it. Exercise is something I usually always look forward to doing. But to be honest, when I am feeling depressed I really have to force myself to workout, once I do, I feel so much better.

I also find that regular exercise builds my confidence because I know I am doing something that is good for my body. The same applies to fueling my body with healthy foods. When I eat well, I feel good, so I like to look at what my diet is like when I start feeling depressed. Then I make the appropriate adjustments that will help me start feeling better.
A FINAL THOUGHT
When you have a bad day or a bout of depression for what seems to be no reason, I encourage you to focus on the good and try the tips I mentioned above. Don't give up on yourself and think the depression will last forever because it usually doesn't.
To be honest, sometimes I just stop trying to figure out what's wrong with me. I've come to know myself well enough to know I am extremely EMO (emotional) sometimes and that is how the Lord made me. It is what it is. I try to push forward and remember a time in the past when I felt depressed and made it through, that gives me hope for the future.
